Meal Preparation and Serving
St. Francis House depends almost entirely on donations and volunteers to prepare and serve meals to our guests. There are three ways to volunteer at St. Francis House during mealtime. Meals are prepared and served 365 days per year. 1) People wishing to volunteer can donate a meal for our residents to serve. 2) You can come and serve a meal that has been prepared by our kitchen Supervisor. Some volunteers will make a financial contribution to the meal being served. 3) You can bring a meal in and serve it to the guests. We ask our volunteers to arrive at about 5:30 pm to begin preparing the meal and serve dinner at 6:30 pm. All of our volunteers get a tour of the house and an introduction to our services and programs. After the meal is served, our volunteers can clean the kitchen, and dining area and help prepare sack lunches for our guests to take to work with them on the following day. Volunteers can also help with laundry for the day. Volunteers can take this opportunity to interact with the guests before and after mealtime. The guests really enjoy socializing with the volunteers and the night usually wraps up about 8:30 pm.
