Community Outreach, The

The Community Outreach is a ministry that connects those in need with those who want to help through financial assistance, referrals and education. Currently it assists clients, who cannot receive public funds but have emergency situations, with rental deposits and rent payments; utility shut-offs and monthly bus passes for those who are employed. It also provides, through trained mentorship programs, education to those in need through the Genesis Mentoring Program, an intensive 18-week home-based programs that focus on goal and priority setting, parenting skills and financial literacy. It is a privilege for clients to be accepted into this program and be paired with trained volunteer mentors. They complete an application process and also work with Lutheran Social Service's Consumer Credit Counseling to establish a household budget. The ministry continues to be dedicated to teaching people "how to fish" and showing the hope and love of Christ and welcomes donations and volunteer mentor inquires through the website at www.thecommunityoutreach.org.
