A Haven and Human Voice for Animals in Need" the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society receives thousands of unwanted, abandoned, abused, injured and orphaned pets each year from Sioux Falls and surrounding communities. Each day, we strive to find homes for the homeless, care for the abandoned, love for the mistreated and justice for the abused and neglected. Serving since 1919, the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is an open admission facility that takes in abandoned, abused, homeless, and unwanted animals that need tender loving care until they can find a permanent home. Our mission is to help these animals find their new permanent home, prevent animal cruelty, and educate people on the humane treatment of animals. The SFAHS takes in over 9,000 animals a year. These animals are mostly dogs and cats as well as ferrets, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds and lizards of any kind. The SFAHS is a non-profit organization that is operated by 60 staff members and numerous volunteers. The animals and the staff depend on our volunteers. As a non-profit organization, the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society depends on volunteers as essential components in helping to provide a quality shelter and life for the animals. If you love animals, and have at least four spare hours a month, we strongly encourage you to consider volunteering at the Humane Society. By offering a broad range of tasks, we accommodate a wide variety of volunteer interests and talents that aid in fulfilling the needs of both our animals and our operation responsibilities. We greatly appreciate your interest in supporting the Humane Society's mission to provide a haven and human voice for animals in need. Since SFAHS is a non-profit organization, we depend on contributions, donations, our endowment fund, a portion of sales from our retail store, and some of the fees for services that are provided.
