Senior Companion Volunteers
If you or someone you know is interested in enriching the lives of others and becoming a Senior Companion volunteer, please contact us. Use your experience to make a positive difference in the lives of others. As a Senior Companion volunteer, your help will improve the quality of life for older adults. Senior Companions make weekly visits to older adults and adults living with disabilities. The overall goal is to help keep them living independently in their own homes by providing them with an essential social connection. Companions serve by completing simple chores such as light housekeeping and paying bills, planning or preparing meals, playing games, reminiscing, and just being a friend. Volunteers must be 55+, meet an income guideline, and be willing to serve 10-40 hours/week (average is 10-15 hours a week).
Our volunteers receive:
- orientation and ongoing training,
- a non-taxable stipend,
- mileage reimbursement or public transportation reimbursement to and from site,
- annual leave, holidays and sick leave,
- accident and liability insurance while serving.
The Senior Companions Program receives both federal and private funds and is dedicated to supporting low-income older adults. To volunteer, Express Interest below. For more information, visit our volunteer page or call (605) 361-1133.
