Location: Clay, Union, Turner, Bon Homme, and Yankton Counties
Time Commitment: Approximately 10–12 hours per month
Become a voice for abused and neglected children in your community. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are trained community members appointed by the court to advocate for a child's best interests during abuse and neglect cases.
Responsibilities
- Meet with and build a relationship with a child.
- Communicate with family members, schools, and service providers.
- Attend court hearings and provide recommendations to the judge.
- Monitor the child's well-being and progress throughout the case.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Pass a background check.
- Complete 30 hours of training.
CASA Volunteers typically serve on a case for about 12 months and receive ongoing support from CASA staff.
