Sprouts & Spades Volunteers are responsible for maintaining all of the plants at RMHC SoDak both indoors and outdoors. Garden/farming experience is not required, but highly recommended. During your first shift, you will receive a House tour including in-depth tours of both gardens. You will report to Sprouts & Spades supervisor Samantha Dixon. Volunteer responsibilities will vary due to weather, season, and necessity. Examples of tasks include (but are not limited to): Watering plants, Harvesting food, Weeding, planting seeds, pruning, changing the water & adding nutrients to hydroponic gardens, maintaining the compost bin, and Pest control (organic methods ONLY).
You will be caring for: 6 Outdoor Raised Garden Beds, Multiple Potted/Hanging Outdoor Plants, Houseplants in Lobby, Compost Bin, Sprouts & Spades Indoor Hydroponic Garden: 3 TowerGardens, 3 Tabletop Herb Gardens, and Potted House Plants. Shifts are available MWF from 9am-12pm. This is the ideal time for the outdoor plants to be watered. If you are interested in this opportunity but this time frame does not work for you, please email Samantha@rmhcsodak.org to arrange an alternate time. Hours and Commitment: We ask our Sprouts & Spades volunteers to commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of one full semester of volunteering, or 50 hours.
