Over 100 students in our area are hoping to be connected with a mentor. We have a great opportunity for you to make a difference in the life of a child.
You are invited to attend one of our upcoming Mentor "Try-It” Days on Tuesday, February 7th from 11:30-12:30 pm at Anne Sullivan Elementary, 3701 E Third Street or Friday, February 10th from 12:00-1:00 pm at Robert Frost Elementary School, 3101 S Fourth Avenue. This fun event provides an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the LSS School Mentoring Program to come and give it a try.
During this activity, you and other volunteers will have lunch and play games with students interested in participating in the Mentor Program. Mentors spend their lunch hour once a week with a student in a school convenient to their workplace or home.
One lunch hour a week is a small time commitment that can make a lifetime of difference. Mentoring is linked to increased self-esteem, improved academic skills, fewer absences, and a heightened sense of citizenship. And on top of that, it’s fun and rewarding. You don’t have to be a math whiz, you don’t have to know what a “gerund” is, you just have to be willing to share your time and make a new friend.
So come give it a try! We ask that you RSVP by January 31 at 605-444-7803.
