Over 100 students in our area are hoping to be connected with a mentor. We have a great opportunity for you to make a difference in the life of a child.
You are invited to attend our upcoming Mentor "Try-It” Day at Hayward Elementary School, 400 N Valley View Road on Wednesday, February 2nd from 11:30-12:30 pm. This fun event provides an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the LSS School Mentoring Program to come and give it a try.
During this activity, you and other volunteers will have lunch and play games with students interested in participating in the Mentor Program. Mentors spend their lunch hour once a week with a student in a school convenient to their workplace or home.
One lunch hour a week is a small time commitment that can make a lifetime of difference. Mentoring is linked to increased self-esteem, improved academic skills, fewer absences, and a heightened sense of citizenship. And on top of that, it’s fun and rewarding. You don’t have to be a math whiz, you don’t have to know what a “gerund” is, you just have to be willing to share your time and make a new friend.
So come give it a try! We ask that you RSVP by January 28th by emailing mentoring@lsssd.org or call us at 444-7803.
