First Peoples Fund is looking for 12 volunteers to help us with an event at the Performing Arts Center of Rapid City on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Community Spirit Awards honor Native American artists from across the country who are leaders in their communities and have devoted their lives to passing on their cultural traditions. The event began in Rapid City in 2000, moved away, and we are thrilled that it's returning to Rapid City this year. It features some of the top Native artistic talent in the country. We'll need 5 volunteers to help with a reception and silent auction that begins at 5:30 p.m. We will hold an orientation for that at 4 p.m. Jobs include helping the chef bring food from the kitchen, keeping the commons area clean and assisting First Peoples Fund staff with artwork and bidding. We need 7 more volunteers to help with Will Call and ushering for the show that starts at 7 p.m. The orientation for this will begin at 5:30 p.m. First Peoples Fund is a national nonprofit based in Rapid City for 20 years that supports the power of art and culture to bring about positive change in Native communities, beginning with Native artists and their families.
