Civil Air Patrol
South Dakota Wing is the South Dakota level of Civil Air Patrol, chartered by Congress as the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and part of the USAF "total force" - active duty, guard, reserve, and auxiliary.
In South Dakota, members based in units across the state devote their time and skills to save lives, relieve suffering, prevent property damage and provide humanitarian assistance. The wing can deploy its six aircraft, ground teams, and small search drones to assist in disaster response and provide other and ground support to local, state, tribal and federal agencies.
