Who We Are
Alternatives to Violence Project-Sioux Falls (AVP-Sioux Falls) is a non-profit non-denominational organization dedicated to working with inmates and communities to teach the history and practical application of non-violence. Founded by Quakers and inmates in the New York prison system, AVP is an international program that brings hope of non-violent living around the world.
What We Do
AVP-Sioux Falls holds and sponsors workshops in the prisons around South Dakota, which can last anywhere from a couple of hours to a full weekend. These are experiential, i.e., there is no teaching, but everyone (AVP volunteers and inmates) learns together, through brainstorming, exercises, small group discussions, role-plays, and other practical examples.
