Who We Are
The Senior Companion Program is one of the National AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer programs, funded by AmeriCorps and sponsored locally by The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. The Senior Companion Program engages adults aged 55 and older to provide companionship, respite, and support with daily living tasks as is appropriate and necessary to help older adults live independently in their homes. The Senior Companion’s compassionate presence and support have helped seniors maintain their independence, improve their quality of life, and build lasting friendships.

What We Do
As a Senior Companion, you will work one-on-one with individuals who need a little extra help to remain independent. You’ll visit your Senior Companion client on a regular schedule that fits both your availability and your client’s needs - whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or more frequently.
Our Senior Companions engage in a variety of activities, including:
- Engaging in heartfelt conversations, actively listening, and sharing stories to uplift spirits and combat loneliness.
- Participating in leisure activities such as playing games, going for walks, and enjoying hobbies together, promoting mental and emotional well-being.
- Assisting with practical tasks like grocery shopping, running errands, and providing transportation, helping seniors maintain their independence and stay connected to their community.
- Offering a helping hand with light household chores, organizing, and meal preparation, ensuring a safe and comfortable living environment.
- Providing respite for caregivers by offering relief and support, enabling them to take a well-deserved break while knowing their loved ones are in good hands.
