YMCA Operation: Beauty
http://www.siouxfallsymca.orgOperation: Beauty - Decade after decade, adolescent girls take their turns rolling through the motions of questioning their looks, social status, self-confidence and self worth. By offering Operation: Beauty, the girls have a safe, non-judgmental place and time to channel their feelings, relate to their peers, and find purpose and meaning in their own identity. The weekend would not be possible without the help of the many volunteers that put so much time and dedication. The volunteers are one of the most vital roles in the program as they are the ones who hear them when they speak, observe their nonverbal communication, encourage participation, affirm their accomplishments, affirm their feelings and emotions, and work to empathize with their current situations. It is Sioux Falls Family YMCA's Afterschool Program's mission to provide the space and safety net for our girls to hear the truth and reflect on it. We want the girls to see the truth about their selves and the other girls around them. To accomplish this, we have structured the weekend with influential speakers, therapeutic small group activities, a service project, guided journaling, and plenty of fun, girl-time to laugh and feel beautiful inside and out.
