Special Event Volunteers

The Salvation Army, like most organizations right now, are having to make changes to their events.  For example, our Harvest Festival Auction will be moving from a live/in person event to a virtual event that will take place in October of this year.  Moving to a virtual event is something completely new for us and we're in need of volunteers to come along side us as we learn about how to make this a successful event to benefit the individuals and families who seek out services during the holidays and throughout the year.

Specificaly we're seeking volunteers for the following tasks:

Auction Committee Members-volunteers who have previous experience with live and/or virtual auctions.  We'll be using a platform through Clickbid for the this event.  Several other agencies in Sioux Falls have used this company for their events.  Since this is something completely new for us, we're looking for individauls who can "teach us" the ins and outs of a live event.   Other duties could involve working with the items that are donated to group them and create beautiful displays prior to the items being added to our event website and Facebook page.

Virtual Marketing Assistants-volunteers who have experience with Social Media, would be willing to share event postings from our accounts, curate/create content for our event , the willingness to share it through their accounts and encourage others to share it as well.

Live Stream/Video Experts-volunteers who have knowledge with live stream & video and would be willing to teach us how to do conduct these types of live event tasks successfully in conjunction with our auction.  Also, those who may be interested in handling this aspect of our event for us.  Like we stated above, we have no experience with these tasks but recognize they are crucial to the success of our event.

Data Entry Operators-volunteers who have experience with data entry and enjoy working on the behind the scenes part of special events.  In July, we'll be collecting items for our Fall auction.  Once those items come in, volunteers will be needed to assist with adding the items to the Clickbid software program, uploading photos, and entering item descriptions.

Item Procurement-volunteers will be needed starting in July to assist with the mailing of the auction item/sponsorship letters, follow up phone calls, and scheduling item pick ups.  This activity will take place at our 900 N. Cliff Avenue office.  You will be given access to a computer and telephone to complete these tasks.

Donation Pick up-volunteers willing to pick up donated auction items from local companies.  A route will be given to you with the company name, address, contact person name and item description.  You will be asked to drop off a tax receipt upon pick up of each item.   You may use your own vehicle or possibly a Salvation Army vehicle if you're willing to fill out the appropriate paperwork.

Entertainment-volunteers are needed who have a talent they would like to share during the live portions of our event.  Talents could include playing an instrument, singing, etc. The Salvation Army has a long history that involves musical talents.  This would be a great opportunity for you to showcase yours.

Auction Advice-anyone willing to share of their knowledge and expertise in this area.  You may not have the time to devote to a specific volunteer opportunity, but do have knowledge you could share.

This event is vital to our overall funding raising campaign and we could use the help of our community in moving forward with a more tech savvy online event.  Thank you for considering these activities.  If you know of someone who might be interested, please share this with them.  For any of the opportunities listed above, please contact Marcie Priestley at 605-332-2331 ext. 108, marcie.priestley@usc.salvationarmy.org or message me through our Facebook page - The Salvation Army Sioux Falls.
