Distribution Center Volunteer
We need your help in our distribution center! Distribution center volunteers help ensure we have enough food for families in need. Volunteers are tasked with helping with the following projects:
BackPack Program
Volunteers will pack sacks of food for hungry children in Sioux Falls. The BackPack Program supports over 3,000 children in the Sioux Falls area, and we need your help to ensure no child goes hungry in our community.
Food Box Packing
Help your neighbors in need by packing food boxes at Feeding South Dakota's Sioux Falls location that will help feed children and families who need food assistance. Volunteers may also work on other projects that aid in food assistance efforts for South Dakotans in need.
Clean Room
Help Feeding South Dakota get food to even more people across our state by repackaging bulk food items such as cereal, crackers, and pasta in a clean room setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Tasks vary depending by location, volunteer schedule and the work that needs to be accomplished to end hunger across the state of South Dakota. Work may include sorting perishable or non-perishable food, packing food into boxes for distribution, repackaging bulk food, labeling packaged food items, and packing BackPacks of food for children.
Support/Training:
Please arrive 10 minutes early and wear comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Ability to lift 10 to 30 pounds
Age Requirements:
This position will be working in a warehousing facility alongside forklift traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

**Court-referred community service volunteers can complete the Court-Referred Community Service Volunteer Agreement or send an email to info@feedingsouthdakota.org to request one. Once approved, the community service volunteer will create a profile through our Community Connect volunteer management site and will register for shifts in advance. Once the volunteer has met the total hour requirements determined by the court, the volunteer will notify the site volunteer coordinator and a certificate of hours completed will then be issued.
