Seeking Volunteer Human Rights Committee Member

 

LifeScape’s Human Rights Committee, specific to Children’s Services, is seeking individuals with a background in Human Services, Education, Health Care, Therapy, other related fields, or if you are an personal advocate/family advocate.

 

LifeScape ensures the rights of all persons who receive supports. LifeScape actively protects and promotes person’s rights and works to ensure that these rights are not unnecessarily limited or infringed upon. Independence of each person is promoted without providing unnecessary supports. All limitations of rights must be in order to protect the health, safety or welfare of the person or others or to provide specific services and must be in accordance with procedures outlined in the policy.

 

Human Rights Committee Overview:

Human Rights Committee (HRC) serves to proactively protect the rights and freedoms of persons who receive supports. The HRC will ensure that support and services provided for persons do not unjustifiably restrict rights, do not unnecessarily present a risk to the person, and are provided in the least restrictive environment possible.

 

Volunteer Position Summary: The Human Rights committee exists to ensure the protection of rights for all people. The committee serves as an objective third party to ensure there is due process prior to any restriction of rights for a person. The committee reviews all plans which include restrictive components to ensure the restriction is justified and that there is a plan to restore the right to the person whose right has been limited. Additionally, the committee ensures all proposed techniques and procedures are ethical, moral and adhere to organizational policy. 

  1. The committee meets regularly as follows:

The Human Rights Committee will meet bi-monthly at a minimum.

Regular participation is encouraged. If you are unable to attend a scheduled meeting, we request that you contact HRC Committee Lead.

 

Committee membership extends for three years.  Committee meets everyother Thursday, time TBA, for 2hrs each meeting.

  1. All information discussed in committee meetings is strictly confidential (HIPPA/FERPA Federal Laws)
  1. Prior to participation in committee meetings, members must receive training regarding rights, disability awareness, LifeScape’s mission and philosophy and Human Rights Policy and Procedures.
