Dow Rummel Village is seeking a friendly, dependable volunteer to help lead one of our residents’ favorite activities—Bingo! This volunteer will call Bingo numbers and help facilitate a fun, engaging hour of play for older adults. Our clients rely on local food resources, such as Feeding Brookings. We are looking for an individual who is willing to drive through Feeding Brookings (2030 3rd St) every Thursday at 3PM and pick up an avg of 5-7 boxes of food. It's an easy drive-through- we'll text you in the morning how many boxes we need, you'll let the organization know you're from Margo's Place and how many, and they'll load up your car with the boxes to be delivered to our shelter.

You'll feed families and impact your community in under an hour of your time.

BackPack Program
Help us pack nutritious food for kids in Sioux Falls! Work alongside fellow volunteers in an assembly line—some packing while others restock supplies. Together, we’ll make sure kids have the fuel they need to learn and grow.

Food Box Packing
Get involved in packing food boxes for our local seniors or for mobile distributions that support families. It’s a great way to connect with others while making a real impact in your community.

Bulk Food Processing
Join us in our bulk food room, where we take larger quantities and turn them into family-sized portions, including bulk produce. 

Food Sorting and Quality Assurance

As a volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in sorting food donations or produce  to ensure they are safe for distribution. You’ll also help categorize items, making sure everything is ready for our school and wellness pantries.

Support and Training:

Please arrive at least 5 minutes early and dress in comfy layers with enclosed shoes. We’ll give you the scoop on your tasks and provide support throughout your shift.

Want to be a hero with a spatula (or a pizza delivery app)? We're looking for groups to fund or cook and deliver the meal for our fantastic adoptive/foster families and volunteers at our monthly Family Gatherings. Meals will be served on the 3rd Tuesday evening of the month (August - May, excluding December). We will have 80-120 grateful guests!

Our biggest event of the year is right around the corner—and we need lots of volunteers! The Winter Ball is our annual premier event for our teens and adults with disabilities. This formal dance will be taking place at Mosaic downtown on Saturday, January 31st from 6-9pm.

We ask that only adults volunteer for this event, with exceptions for teens who are volunteering with a parent. We also ask that volunteers for this event join in the fun and come dressed in formal attire.

Volunteer opportunities for this event include: decorating, making/serving mocktails, working the check-in table, helping with the food, running side activities, and just mingling and hyping up the dance floor! Feeding South Dakota receives thousands of pounds of donated food per year from various food drives and our retail salvage program, so we need your help to sort it so that we can stock our school and wellness pantries.

Volunteers will check expiration dates and labels on donated food, and then sort the donated food into categories such as Protein, Rice & Pasta, Cereal, for later distribution to school and wellness pantries.

ALLERGEN: GLUTEN, WHEAT

Who doesn't love cereal? Join us as we package cereal into family-sized portions for neighbors across South Dakota!

Cereal is perfect for families because it’s packed with vitamins and minerals, is quick to prepare, and keeps well in storage.

This project will be done in our bulk-food room, where you'll scoop cereal and seal and label bags that will go into food boxes for local families across the state.

What to Expect:

At the annual Great Strides walk, participants and volunteers, come together for a day of unity where friends, family, and colleagues unite to celebrate and remember. It is a time for those touched by cystic fibrosis to feel renewed hope while their community rallies around them and an opportunity to remember those lost to cystic fibrosis. This is a family-friendly (dogs welcome) event filled with fun activities, food, and a walk. Location: Old Storybook Island Shelter, Rapid City.

VOLUNTEER ROLES:

Once certified as a leader for BCBH-SD, anyone with a desire to help people better manage their chronic conditions and lead healthier lives can lead a workshop. No healthcare or teaching experience is required. In fact, many leaders have a chronic disease themselves and have attended BCBH SD Workshops as a participant. JA Finance Park® is an immersive experience for middle and high school students to learn how to meet their financial goals while living within their means. Students participate in teacher-led lessons that culminate in an in person simulation experience. During this one-day (5-hour) experience, volunteers share their life experiences and coach students on topics related to their monthly budgeting decisions.    

McCrossan Boys Ranch in Sioux Falls is a private non-profit organization that reaches out to troubled boys between the ages of 11 to 20 who have experienced conflict in their lives. By working on values, goals, education, and life skills, we prepare our boys to live a balanced life outside the Ranch.

Volunteers in the Visitor Center will sit at the front desk and greet guests, help keep the archive room tidy, and occasionally assist with tour and field trip groups. 

Hours for the Visitor Center are weekdays from 10am-4pm. Volunteers shifts can be from 1-4 hours, at your convenience. 

What is Corks & Kegs?

Join us for the legendary Corks & Kegs – (new theme every year)! This iconic evening includes tastings of wine, brews, cocktails, mocktails, and epic eats along with auctions and games —all to support fighters living with cystic fibrosis. Every Corks & Kegs includes a moment that hits the heartstrings where someone touched by cystic fibrosis takes the mic to share their powerful journey which reminds us why we unite annually—for hope, for progress, and for every CF fighter out there.

The special events committee collaborates to plan, coordinate, and execute all aspects of the event—from pre-event preparations to day-of activities. Through strategic efforts and teamwork, the committee aims to deliver an exceptional experience while meeting or exceeding event revenue goals.

Overall, the time commitment can range from about 1 hours per month during the early planning stages, increasing to around 8 hours per month as the event approaches, and peaking at around 2 hours during the week of the event itself.

The committee will meet at least once a month (mostly virtually), and potentially more frequently leading up to the event. 2026 Corks & Kegs is Saturday, September 26 in Sioux Falls. This will be the 12th anniversary and the FIRST EVER indoor/outdoor event at Lake Lorraine.

Custer Senior Center, Custer SD is looking for a person to work one day per week as a gift shop volunteer. Any Monday through Friday is available.
Duties to include opening the gift shop and greeting guests, explaining the available product for sale, ringing up items, cash/credit card handling, visual display of new product, talking with the consigners who sell in the gift shop, and following management instructions.

The gift shop is for the benefit of all members and to support the Senior Center. Proficiency in english is desired and the gift of gab is always welcome! The position can be sitting or standing by personal comfort level, and some cash handling skill is beneficial but not mandatory for ther right person.

Toy cleaning and sanitizing is very important to the Toy Lending Library. We want to make sure the toys are SUPER clean. Little children will play and learn with them.

And you get to participate in the process :)

It's very important to our organization that the toys are very clean and sanitized before they reach the hands of children. We need volunteers who would like to learn the procedure to clean and sanitize toys. This is mostly a standing position but we can change the set up to accommodate seating if necessary. We would love volunteer who could learn the procedure and come back for at least one hour each week. Of course, if you love it, you can come back many times or stay longer!

Toy Processing- the volunteer will learn the steps for toy processing who include checking the toy, the book and the box to make sure those are in great conditions. They will be looking for missing toys, broken toys or boxes and, books who were damaged. This is a seating position where you get to try out toys!

SHIFT Garage exists to remove transportation barriers by providing affordable, reliable vehicle repair and maintenance for individuals and families in our community. Volunteers are the heart of our work—helping ensure people can get to work, school, medical appointments, and daily life with confidence.

You do not need to be a master mechanic to volunteer with SHIFT Garage! Whether you’re experienced under the hood or simply willing to help with basic tasks like cleaning interiors, vacuuming carpets, or organizing tools, there’s a place for you on the SHIFT Garage team.

Volunteers support our head mechanic and clients by assisting with vehicle care, shop organization, and creating a welcoming, respectful environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Responsibilities may include:

Assisting with basic vehicle cleaning (dusting dashboards, vacuuming carpets, wiping surfaces)

Helping with simple, supervised automotive tasks as appropriate to skill level

Lasagna Love was started at the beginning of the pandemic when the founder of Good to Mama was looking for a way to help moms in her community. She and her toddler started making and delivering meals to families in the neighborhood who were struggling, whether that struggle was financial, emotional, or simply a feeling of overwhelm.
Lasagna Love has since grown into a national movement, with thousands of people all cooking and delivering meals to families in their communities. What we do is simple: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities. Our mission is not only to help address the incredible rise in food insecurity among families but also to provide a simple act of love and kindness during a time full of uncertainty and stress.
Volunteers can sign up for a frequency that works for them, making a meal monthly, weekly, 3 times a week, etc. The volunteer would sign up on the website (lasagnalove.org), and then would be provided with a family's information to coordinate a date and time to deliver the meal. The Literacy Council of the Black Hills is hosting an upcoming tutor training for community members interested in supporting adult learners. Volunteer tutors help adults improve reading, writing, or English language skills and make a lasting impact through one-to-one learning. Training will take place Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, 2026 (two sessions), on the SD School of Mines campus in Classroom Building 109. Join us and help open doors through literacy.

Feeding South Dakota serves ALL 66 counties in the state and over 12,000 families per month.

HOW?

Because our Mobile Food Distribution Program allows Feeding South Dakota to go where hunger is, instead of hunger having to find us.

Each stop will provide you a chance to get some fresh air, meet other volunteers and guests, and help rural communities in need. This is a great opportunity for all who are curious about food insecurity and how it impacts rural communities.

Please pack a lunch, snack, and drink for the road!

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks to help with the distribution of food boxes to the public.

Please wear comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift.

This position may be working outdoors in a parking lot around vehicle traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Distributions are held outside, please dress accordingly for all types of weather. Wear comfortable clothing in layers. Closed-toe/closed-heel shoes are required, 100% of the foot must be covered. No crocks, sandals, Keen sandals, etc. If you arrive not wearing appropriate footwear, we will kindly ask that you leave and change shoes or volunteer with us another time.
