Opportunities From: Helpline Center Volunteer Connections

Our clients rely on local food resources, such as Feeding Brookings. We are looking for an individual who is willing to drive through Feeding Brookings (2030 3rd St) every Thursday at 3PM and pick up an avg of 5-7 boxes of food. It's an easy drive-through- we'll text you in the morning how many boxes we need, you'll let the organization know you're from Margo's Place and how many, and they'll load up your car with the boxes to be delivered to our shelter.

You'll feed families and impact your community in under an hour of your time. 

Do you write or speak another language? Margo's Place serves all walks of life - we are looking for any individual who is willing to translate our shelter and program documents, or is willing to be available to translate for clients. All languages accepted - a background check will be required for any direct client work. 

Margo's Place assists with emergency shelter, support groups, client needs, crisis intervention, community outreach, and more. If you're interested in supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking but don't see a specific opportunity, please connect here.

Margo's Place receives donations of clothing, household items, and more to assist with client needs in building independence. Help us process and inventory donations and organize them in our shelter to efficiently serve our clients. 

This opportunity is at the shelter, but can be done anytime from 9AM -9PM for any duration of time. 

We are looking for a team of a minimum of 5 individuals who can help clean out our garage shed! This is a one-time opportunity to help clean out our storage and effectively serve our clients more. You'll help create a space for a walk-in area for clients to shop for basic needs, furniture, and more when they move to their own place. 

Date of project is flexible dependent on individual/group availability. In case of inclement weather - the project will be rescheduled.

Lasagna Love was started at the beginning of the pandemic when the founder of Good to Mama was looking for a way to help moms in her community. She and her toddler started making and delivering meals to families in the neighborhood who were struggling, whether that struggle was financial, emotional, or simply a feeling of overwhelm.
Lasagna Love has since grown into a national movement, with thousands of people all cooking and delivering meals to families in their communities. What we do is simple: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities. Our mission is not only to help address the incredible rise in food insecurity among families but also to provide a simple act of love and kindness during a time full of uncertainty and stress.
Volunteers can sign up for a frequency that works for them, making a meal monthly, weekly, 3 times a week, etc. The volunteer would sign up on the website (lasagnalove.org), and then would be provided with a family's information to coordinate a date and time to deliver the meal. At each giveaway, we need over 80 volunteers to help pack food and boxes, bring food outside, direct more than 1,000 vehicles, and load boxes into vehicles. ​

To ensure the success of our giveaways, we urge you to consider volunteering with us. Your contribution is vital in ensuring those in need receive the support they deserve. ​

Each volunteer serves as an essential piece of the puzzle, and without your assistance, we cannot achieve our goal of helping thousands of individuals and families through these difficult times. ​

Keep Clean Downtown Brookings is a volunteer effort to remove litter in the Downtown Brookings neighborhood. Anyone can volunteer, including all ages and group sizes, during most daylight hours, seven days a week. Year-round opportunities are available, but depend on the weather and temperature. All supplies and instructions will be provided at the event - just bring yourself and a friend or two!

Volunteers must complete a waiver before volunteering. Waivers will be sent in advance or completed on-site. If under 18, parents must sign the waiver and an adult must accompany them during cleanup.

 Project Details: Help clean and sort 200 lbs of plastic that will be recycled into park benches! All materials and training will be provided. Supervision and support throughout your shift.

Please join us in the 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a Housing and Urban Development required event is a vital community effort to better understand housing insecurity in our region. The PIT Count provides critical data that informs funding, planning, and services to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.  The Survey of Housing Insecure People is a local effort to identify individuals that are living on the brink of homelessness.  These statistics are also used for funding, planning, and services to support individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity.  Volunteers are needed to help with administering surveys to individuals struggling with housing security and data entry after the event.

Requesting SculptureWalk Volunteers

Who: Requesting able-bodied volunteers 13 and older. Volunteers who are OK with heavy lifting are a plus!
What: Assist with all the logistics involved in taking down the organization's current set of sculptures and getting new sculptures put up at their downtown Sioux Falls locations

Where: Installation activities take place along the SculptureWalk route (mostly along Phillips Avenue between 8th and 13th Streets)

When: Taking down the current set of sculptures usually happens in the early morning on a Saturday in mid-April. Putting up the new set of sculptures usually happens in the early morning on a Saturday in early May

Every Thursday, we need a group of volunteers to help us pack boxes of food, starting at 2pm. The main job is to pull a wagon and fill boxes with food items (bread, cans, eggs, and other items), then bring the box outside to stack on a pallet. We do also need some volunteers to help us distribute the boxes. Guests drive up between 3pm and 5pm to get a box.

The Volunteer Service Bank is looking for compassionate individuals to provide transportation to medical appointments for those in need. A few hours of your time can make a impact on someone in our community!

The Furniture Mission is a faith-based organization providing gently used furniture to those in need free of charge. We also pick-up donations of furniture. We are seeking a warehouse volunteer who is comfortable loading furniture for families onsite. When an appointment arrives, they pick out their needed items and we load their trucks. Volunteers will be trained on moving furniture and use of equipment dollies for easier transporting. A comfortable home provides dignity, security and a better environment in which to raise a family. Owen's Outfitters is a new medical equipment lending library based in Sioux Falls, SD. We're looking for regular volunteers who can spare 1-2 hours a week to help manage donated durable medical equipment intake. Volunteers will help us sort out donations, clean and repair items as needed, prepare items for display and storage, and assist staff with equipment database management. The position may require some lifting and rotating actions, but accommodations will happily be provided. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who likes working with their hands, and full training will be provided. To volunteer, you can go ahead and Express Interest below.

Owen's Outfitters is a medical equipment lending library in Sioux Falls whose mission is to provide durable and disposable medical equipment at no charge to those who need it most, sourced through community donations. 
Servers truly are the heart of Owen’s Outfitters. They meet and greet clients, assist with orders, process lending paperwork, and track item requests. They also process and organize donations, stock and manage inventory, and maintain our storefront so it’s always clean and tidy. We are looking for regular volunteers who can provide us with a minimum of four hours a month to work as Servers.
Servers often come to us with prior experience in the medical industry or knowledge of medical equipment and supplies. Although this kind of background can be helpful to get you up and running quickly, it’s certainly not essential for the role. Full training is provided, flexible shifts are available, and accommodations are happily offered to suit all abilities.
