Volunteer: Support Volunteer

Support Volunteers provide supervised assistance to enhance program operations and participant experiences. This role supports activities, organization, and engagement while maintaining a safe, welcoming environment. Individuals in this role do not provide unsupervised direct care and work under the continuous guidance of trained staff.

Requirements:

Must be at least 16 years of age Demonstrated ability (or willingness to be trained) to support individuals with developmental disabilities Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Effective communication and teamwork skills Must meet DHS/DDD/DSS background check requirements

Required Training (Prior to Independent Service Delivery)

Agency policies and procedures Abuse, neglect, and exploitation reporting Participant rights and confidentiality Emergency procedures and safety protocols Behavior support and de-escalation Sensory-informed care practices CPR / First Aid (as applicable)

Core Responsibilities

Program Support & Operations

Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of program spaces Prepare materials and support facilitation of activities and group engagement Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for participants, staff, and visitors

Participant Engagement (Supervised)

Support participant interaction, inclusion, and engagement during activities under staff supervision Serve as a positive, respectful, and professional presence within the program Follow staff direction to ensure consistency and safety in all interactions

Compliance & Expectations

Adhere to all program guidelines, confidentiality standards, and staff direction Maintain appropriate boundaries, recognizing that unsupervised direct care is not permitted Demonstrate professionalism, patience, and respect in all settings

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Ability to assist with setup, cleanup, and activity support Ability to lift, move, or carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds as needed Ability to work in facility-based and program activity environments
