What to Bring:

A safe, affordable home improves the health, educational outcomes and financial stability of a family for generations to come. Thank you for building alongside future Habitat homebuyers! 

We are currently looking for volunteers to help deliver these meals and ensure they reach the seniors who rely on this service in the Box Elder area.
Time Commitment: Approximately 1–2 hours, once per month
Schedule: Deliveries take place on the first Tuesday morning of each month. The next delivery is August 4, 2026.
Location: Box Elder area
Deliveries: Up to 10 stops per route

What to expect:
Volunteers will meet with Feeding South Dakota and me at a designated location in Box Elder to pick up the frozen meal boxes and a delivery route sheet.

Volunteers will then:
Safely deliver frozen meals to assigned participants.
Provide a brief, friendly check-in during each delivery.
Obtain a signature from each participant upon delivery.

Requirements:
Valid driver's license
Reliable vehicle for transporting meals

This is a small time commitment that makes a meaningful difference—not only by providing nutritious meals, but also by offering a friendly visit and point of connection for the seniors we serve.

Inter-Lakes Community Action (located in Madison, South Dakota) partnered with Western South Dakota Community Action to expand the 60s Plus Dining Program to western South Dakota, helping fill the gap in areas where Meals on Wheels does not currently provide service. Our mission is to ensure that no senior goes hungry.
Our program provides monthly deliveries of frozen meals to adults age 60 and older living in Bennett, Dewey, Fall River, Meade, Perkins, and parts of Pennington County. Each meal box includes nutritious, fully prepared frozen meals (cooked in Madison and flash-frozen for freshness), along with milk, juice, and bread.

Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented volunteer to assist with a variety of data entry tasks, which may include scanning and processing waivers, entering information from paper documents into a computer, and updating volunteer and opportunity information. This role supports our behind-the-scenes operations and helps keep our information accurate.

ICAP is seeking a small group of on-call volunteers to assist with preparing apartment units for new residents. Our 12-unit apartment complex on South 2nd Avenue houses participants in the Bright Futures, Heartland House, and Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP). When a resident moves out, we occasionally need extra helping hands to quickly prepare the unit for the next household.
This volunteer opportunity is not a regular commitment but provides a meaningful way to support individuals and families as they transition into stable housing.

Brookings Backpack Project has a weekly volunteer opportunity. BBP is seeking a group or several individuals to deliver totes to the area schools on Thursdays.  There are a total of 2 schools needing delivery drivers this year.  It takes about 35-45 minutes (or less) total to pick up the totes, deliver them, and return the empty totes.  It works best with a SUV or pickup.  If needed, we do have access to a box truck.  To volunteer, Express Interest below. Make a Difference: Join Our Food Bank Family

What You'll Do:

BackPack Program
Help us pack nutritious food for kids in Sioux Falls! Work alongside fellow volunteers in an assembly line—some packing while others restock supplies. Together, we’ll make sure kids have the fuel they need to learn and grow.

Food Box Packing
Get involved in packing food boxes for our local seniors or for mobile distributions that support families. It’s a great way to connect with others while making a real impact in your community.

Bulk Food Processing
Join us in our bulk food room, where we take larger quantities and turn them into family-sized portions, including bulk produce. 

Food Sorting and Quality Assurance

As a volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in sorting food donations or produce  to ensure they are safe for distribution. You’ll also help categorize items, making sure everything is ready for our school and wellness pantries.

Support and Training:

Please arrive at least 5 minutes early and dress in comfy layers with enclosed shoes. We’ll give you the scoop on your tasks and provide support throughout your shift.

Volunteers are the heart of Neighborhood Soccer. Whether you’re coaching on the field, helping families register, serving lunch, distributing equipment, welcoming participants, or supporting site operations, your time and encouragement can have a lasting impact on a child’s life.

No soccer experience is required for many volunteer roles. What matters most is a willingness to build relationships, create positive experiences, and help children and families feel welcomed, valued, and supported.

By volunteering, you’ll help create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment where kids can grow in confidence, build friendships, and experience a strong sense of belonging.

We serve children in grades 2nd-5th in underserved neighborhoods by offering free soccer instruction, equipment, and a free hot lunch every Saturday, beginning Sept 12 and ending the end of October.

Key Responsibilities:

The front desk volunteer will be responsible for greeting guests and answering phone calls.

There are many flexible ways to support Neighborhood Soccer. Volunteers can drop in Saturday mornings to help serve lunch and clean up after soccer. Pumping up soccer balls is another flexible option. 

If you were to teach middle or high school, you would teach all sessions on a single morning/day or you may teach once a week for either three or six weeks, depending on the school. Programs vary but the key concepts teach about Financial Literacy, Work Readiness, and Entrepreneurship.

As a new school year begins, we're already preparing weekend food packs for kids across South Dakota, and we need your help packaging sunflower seeds for our Backpack Program.

You'll scoop, weigh, and seal individual bags of sunflower seeds that will be included in weekend food packs for children who may not have enough to eat when school is out. Every bag you package helps ensure a child has nutritious food to take home for the weekend.

Every day, students and visitors to Southeast Technical College appreciate a friendly, helpful person willing to help them find their way.  As a Front Desk Volunteer, you'll be an important part of creating a welcoming first impression, connecting people to the information, services, and support they need.

What You'll Do

For many visitors, you may be the first person they meet at Southeast Tech. Whether it's a prospective student visiting campus for the first time or a community member attending an event, you'll help ensure they feel welcome from the moment they arrive.

Lasagna Love was started at the beginning of the pandemic when the founder of Good to Mama was looking for a way to help moms in her community. She and her toddler started making and delivering meals to families in the neighborhood who were struggling, whether that struggle was financial, emotional, or simply a feeling of overwhelm.
Lasagna Love has since grown into a national movement, with thousands of people all cooking and delivering meals to families in their communities. What we do is simple: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities. Our mission is not only to help address the incredible rise in food insecurity among families but also to provide a simple act of love and kindness during a time full of uncertainty and stress.
Volunteers can sign up for a frequency that works for them, making a meal monthly, weekly, 3 times a week, etc. The volunteer would sign up on the website (lasagnalove.org), and then would be provided with a family's information to coordinate a date and time to deliver the meal. Minimal Time Commitment  

Every move is a little different but since March of 2008, when we started doing moves, we have developed a predictable and repeatable process:

Substitute volunteers are under no minimum hour obligation, they are added to a group message program in which we send out times that we need someone to 'fill in' if they can.

Volunteers walk alongside the horses while the participants ride during their lessons and offers support to the rider from the ground. Sidewalkers must be at least 14 years old, experience with horses is not necessary. The sidewalker helps the rider with grooming and tacking, and may be asked to help with mounting. During the lesson, they help the riders understand the tasks they are doing and offer encouragement, stimulation and support.

Volunteers lead the horses while the participants ride during their lessons. Leaders must be at least 14 years old and have knowledge and experience with horses. The leader may be asked to halter the horses, lead and tie, help tacking and pick out the horses' feet. During the lesson, they maintain control of the horse to help with the rider's lesson and ensure their safety.

Fun & Friends is inviting their families of ALL ages to their 2nd Annual All Family Picnic! This is a casual community event: families are encouraged to bring some lawn chairs or picnic blankets and just come out to enjoy the day! We'll have snacks, activities, and LOTS of space for families to gather, connect, and have some fun.

With the help of volunteers like you, we'll be offering: Tie-dying Fun & Friends shirts to take home! Bubbles and sidewalk chalk, Balloon art, Music to dance to, Face painting, Snack and drinks, Sensory tables & toys, and more to be announced!

A group would be welcome to volunteer--especially for the tie-dying. Teens are welcome to volunteer at this event

The Furniture Mission is a faith-based organization providing gently used furniture to those in need free of charge. We also pick-up donations of furniture. We are seeking a warehouse volunteer who is comfortable loading furniture for families onsite. When an appointment arrives, they pick out their needed items and we load their trucks. Volunteers will be trained on moving furniture and use of equipment dollies for easier transporting. A comfortable home provides dignity, security and a better environment in which to raise a family. Friends of the Big Sioux River host clean up events throughout the year. This is an opportunity to be directly involved in cleaning up the banks of our local streams and rivers. Owen's Outfitters is a new medical equipment lending library based in Sioux Falls, SD. We're looking for regular volunteers who can spare 1-2 hours a week to help manage donated durable medical equipment intake. Volunteers will help us sort out donations, clean and repair items as needed, prepare items for display and storage, and assist staff with equipment database management. The position may require some lifting and rotating actions, but accommodations will happily be provided. Are you passionate about community advocacy and education? Waypost is seeking an Awareness Planner to help us plan and run campaigns around key awareness months and special events. In this opportunity, you’ll help craft messaging, coordinate event details, and build community involvement to amplify our mission and reach those in need.

Help transport and set up event materials (table, banner, brochures, and giveaways).

Act as a friendly point of contact for the public to learn more about Waypost.

Share advocacy information and connect community members with local support.

Helping come up with ideas and create our Yankton Riverboat Days float.

Our Family Connections rooms need an updated paint coat. We will be painting two entry ways, the bathroom, and two offices. This will be 14 years+. Shifts vary depending on your availability and family connections schedule.

McCrossan Boys Ranch in Sioux Falls is a private non-profit organization that reaches out to troubled boys between the ages of 11 to 20 who have experienced conflict in their lives. By working on values, goals, education, and life skills, we prepare our boys to live a balanced life outside the Ranch.

Volunteers in the Visitor Center will sit at the front desk and greet guests, help keep the archive room tidy, and occasionally assist with tour and field trip groups. 

Hours for the Visitor Center are weekdays from 10am-4pm. Volunteers shifts can be from 1-4 hours, at your convenience.

Feeding South Dakota receives thousands of pounds of donated food per year from various food drives and our retail salvage program, so we need your help to sort it so that we can stock our school and wellness pantries.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteers will check expiration dates and labels on donated food, and then sort the donated food into categories such as Protein, Rice & Pasta, Cereal, for later distribution to school and wellness pantries.

Support/Training:

Please arrive at least 5 minutes early and wear comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support throughout their shift.

Meals on Wheels Packing: Location: Active Generations Main (2300 W. 46th St)

Arrive at 9:20 am, packing starts at 9:30 am.

Volunteers pack over 550 meals daily in under an hour.

Description:
We are seeking dedicated adults to serve as Literacy Allies, a vital role focused on accelerating foundational
reading skills for our youngest learners. In this position, you will work in our schools with small groups of
kindergarten and first-grade students, delivering purposeful, intentional practice that is strictly aligned with the
University of Florida Literacy Initiative (UFLI) framework. To ensure your success, you will collaborate closely with  our District Literacy Coach for ongoing instructional guidance, training, and logistical support. By investing your  time and professional skills, you will provide the targeted, high-quality support our youngest learners need to  build a lifetime of literacy success.

Weekly Time Slots
The initial pilot program will serve three elementary schools, each with its own unique scheduling windows to
accommodate student needs. Because routines are vital for our classrooms, we ask that all Literacy Allies
review the timeframes at the link below and select the building, the day of the week, and the one-hour time slot
that best fits their professional availability to maintain consistency week after week. You will receive a follow-up
email in early August.

Key Commitment & Requirements

Team of Allies: A team of six Literacy Allies can partner and commit to cover three hours per
week, two twenty-minute sessions with five minutes between sessions.

Each volunteer for this program is considered an “Unsupervised Volunteer” as you will work with students
without a teacher directly present. Due to that, we must complete a background check. The following link will

Training Schedule
To prepare you for success in the classroom, there will be mandatory, comprehensive professional learning for
all Literacy Allies throughout September. While detailed scheduling information will be shared in early August,
our current vision for this training is an interactive, four-week series where allies attend a single one-hour session
each week in September. We plan to maximize this hour by splitting it into three high-impact segments that
allow for questions and answers at the school sites.

Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways at the September 29th 'Community Connect' Event. Help is needed to set up at the Central State's Fairgrounds (Fine Arts Building) on Sept. 28th.  This may include moving tables, chairs, helping to unload vehicles & place items around the room to prepare for people to 'shop' for the donated / free items available at the event. Help is needed at the actual event on Tuesday, September 29th anytime between 10am - 3pm.  Individuals and families needing assistance can choose to receive a haircut / grooming, a shower, or 'shop' through our various food, household & clothing items available for pick up. Volunteers can make an impact in any one of these areas, or to help carry items for people, etc. Lunch is provided on this day. You can also make an impact by helping afterwards, as we clean up & prepare for the next one in March. This may entail loading items, general cleanup, etc. Informational tables will also be set up to learn more about services available in our community. Volunteers can help in many ways. Our family gatherings provide a unique volunteer opportunity for individuals who have a heart for children in foster care and/or children who have been adopted. Each month adoptive, foster and kinship families gather for a meal, building community, caregiver training and kids club. Our buddies are a vital piece of this evening to ensure our kids club is successful!

Every month, Feeding South Dakota serves more than 12,000 families in all 66 counties.

Our Mobile Food Distribution Program allows us to go where hunger is instead of expecting families to travel long distances for food.

By volunteering, you'll experience communities across South Dakota while making a direct impact on families facing food insecurity.

Training: Please arrive at least 5 minutes early. Staff will provide all training and support throughout your shift.

Dress: Comfortable clothing in layers and fully enclosed shoes.

Lunch: Please pack a lunch, snacks, and drinks. Breaks are taken while traveling.

The Great Plains Tribal Health's Home Visiting Program presents the Healthy Families Carnival & needs YOUR help! There will be many family-friendly games and activities for all ages, including, face-painting, inflatables, arts & crafts, games, food (& sundaes for volunteers!) & more. What to Wear:

Since distributions are held outdoors, please dress appropriately for all types of weather conditions. Wear comfortable, layered clothing and fully enclosed shoes—no crocs, sandals, or open-toed footwear. If you arrive in inappropriate shoes, we will kindly ask you to change before volunteering.

Volunteers will hand out flyers to shoppers as they enter the store, inviting them to donate school supplies for the upcoming school year. The 'Red Kettle' will also be available for those who prefer to make a monetary donation. July 10th from 11am - 1pm.
