Volunteer: Material Cutting Volunteers Needed!

Hope Haven International Ministries has sent 150,000 wheelchairs to 109 countries over the last 30 years. When we started sending wheelchairs, we realized that there was a shortage of children's wheelchairs. As a result, we partnered with Dordt University to create a pediatric wheelchair for children with Cerebral Palsy. We now manufacture this wheelchair in Northwest Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This chair has become very popular among those in developing countries and we need volunteers to come and cut materials needed for wheelchair production. We have the scissors, markers, and Naugahyde needed to complete this task. Please let us know if this is of interest to you, and we would love to talk with you about it! Hope Haven International has sent 150,000 wheelchairs to 109 countries worldwide to impoverished adults and children. Without a wheelchair, many disabled individuals are confined to their homes; only able to enjoy their communities by being carried around by their family members. Having a wheelchair gives the recipient hope, opportunities they never thought possible and unthinkable joy. When we started sending chairs, we realized that we weren't receiving many wheelchairs for children. As a result, we partnered with Dordt University to create the Hope Haven Kid Chair. This chair has been sent all over the world and is heavily sought after.

After each season, participants become equipped with essential tools to navigate life’s challenges with empathy, grace, and courage. From there, they become changemakers who lead with compassion, kindness, and resilience.

Join the GOTR impact by volunteering this season as a coach or junior coach (16 - 18 year-old's in high school). You do not have to be a runner to volunteer! There will always be two coaches at each practice leading a group of 8 - 15 girls through the curriculum. Coach commitment is once a week for 1.5 hours. New coaches will attend new coach training to learn more about the program, best practices, and how to facilitate the curriculum. We have two seasons you can choose from. Our spring season starts in March - May and our fall season starts in September - November.

Volunteer: In School Mentor

In School Mentoring volunteers spend one hour per week with an elementary or middle school student at the school. Mentors and students spend time doing a variety of activities together, including:

playing board games
reading a book
playing basketball
eating lunch together
simply sitting and talking

In School Mentoring offers a flexible volunteer option. With schools located in nearly every neighborhood, mentors can select a location that is best for them. Matches meet during the school lunch hour. The time varies from school to school, but it’s generally a 30 to 45 minute block of time between 11am and 1pm.

School counselors select a young person who can use extra one-to-one attention from a caring adult role model. Counselors are responsible for matching students with an In School mentor.

In School mentors can volunteer in the following school districts: Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Baltic, Brandon Valley, Canton, Dell Rapids, Flandreau, Garretson, Harrisburg, Lennox, Tea Area, Tri-Valley and West Central.
