Opportunities From: Helpline Center Volunteer Connections

A Special Events Volunteer assists in a variety of activities, which may include: selling tickets, handling concession work, supervision of exhibit areas, leading games/activities, and directing visitors. Expectations are that the volunteer arrives on time and stays for the assigned time. Opportunities may be available during the day or evening.

Do you have a group from your church, club, or school that would like to serve with Siouxland Heritage Museums? Our Irene Hall Museum Resource Center is home to thousands of historic artifacts, and we sometimes need help organizing, moving, cleaning, and performing other tasks to help preserve these items for the future. These duties can seem mundane, but many hands make the work much more fun! We welcome groups from middle-school-aged to adults. Opportunities are available on weekdays, between 9am and 4pm.

Docents complete a docent training program and provide historical interpretation of the Pettigrew Home to the public through guided tours. Help visitors understand local history in a new and exciting way! Docents should have good communication skills and a willingness to work with all ages. 

Hours are primarily during the day, on weekdays or weekends. Training for new docents is conducted once per year, usually in the spring. A Museum Store Clerk aids in selling unique items to visitors at the Old Courthouse Museum. This volunteer should be willing to work with staff and the public for making sales, restocking inventory, and keeping the store clean and organized. Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age and should be comfortable working with money and computers. Opportunities include weekdays and weekends.

An Exhibits Assistant aids museum staff in the production and installation of quality exhibits. Duties may include crafting skills, scrapbooking, painting, sanding and finishing, using power tools including drill press, table saw, band saw, and planers, and work with various materials including Plexiglas, Formica, wood, and metals. You will gain an understanding of the exhibit creation process and see that there's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes at the museum than you may realize!

Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age. Hours are primarily weekdays.
