Needing volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound seniors.  Meals are ready for delivery between 10:30am and 11:00am.  Most routes are less than 10 miles in distance and take about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours to deliver.

Borderlands Horse Sanctuary is run completely by volunteers and is always in need of dedicated volunteers for a wide range of tasks (both hands-on and online). Basic hands-on volunteering includes feeding and watering along with cleaning stalls and pens. Once you’ve volunteered for awhile, you’ll progress to grooming and hand walking horses for exercise. Online volunteering includes a wide range of tasks that best fits your abilities. The horses at Borderlands are nonrideable. Volunteers must be 18 years old or accompanied by an adult. The Children's Connection Assistant will: Assist support groups for school-aged children who have or have had an incarcerated family member. The support groups will meet in elementary and middle schools during school hours. Provide information and assist in presentations about Children's Connection to the school counselors and teachers. At Feeding South Dakota, our volunteers and staff come together to distribute boxes and bags of food to our neighbors during Mobile Distributions. This essential program helps us support around 12,000 families across the state each month. We are seeking a volunteer to help with the guest registration process, which includes entering or updating guest information on a tablet and checking in guests for the distribution.

Our hardworking Tuesday/Thursday construction crew needs a meal on April 25th! The individual who originally signed up is unavailable, leaving our crew without a meal that day. Airport greeters meet and welcome wish families at the airport, help departing wish families with check in and security or assist arriving wish families with baggage and locate their pre-arranged limousine or rental car; greeters also welcome families home from their trip by supporting them with their baggage and locating their ground transportation. These volunteers help to ease any concerns the wish family has about navigating the airport and airline travel. The ultimate goal is to ensure the wish family is comfortable and stress-free as they begin or end their wish experience.

Create special touches that help turn a wish into a life-changing experience - be a wish booster! We are looking for volunteers to support travel needs for wish kids who fly out of Rapid City by (1) decorating their hotel room and/or (2) creating airport greet signs for their departures and returns.

Our virtual visit volunteers are young adults who participate in video visits with seniors every week on our online platform. Each week, they return to meet with the same senior to share stories about what is going on in their lives. We’re looking for outgoing, chatty volunteers who can commit to one hour visits each week on the same day and time, for a minimum of 16 weeks. The goal of these visits is to create intergenerational relationships between senior citizens and young college students.

Neighborhood Revitalization

·         We do exterior projects and interior projects on homes Tuesday – Friday

·         A lot of our projects help individuals stay in their homes longer

Looking to help SHIFT Sioux Falls? It takes all kinds of people to make SHIFT run smoothly. Whether you love working on cars, talking to people, or doing office work we can find a place for you here! We perform mostly minor repairs, brakes, oil changes, belt changes, etc. We also perform many suspension repairs that are bolt-off, bolt-on style repairs. We don't go inside the engine or touch the transmission. SHIFT is a great place to learn and no experience is required to join in!

Keep Clean Downtown Brookings is a volunteer effort to remove litter in the Downtown Brookings neighborhood. Downtown Brookings works with various groups and individuals looking to volunteer during the spring, summer, and fall months (as weather and volunteer participation allows). Anyone can volunteer, including all ages and groups sizes, during most daylight hours, seven days a week. All supplies and instructions will be provided at the event - just bring yourself and a friend or two!

Volunteers must complete a waiver before volunteering. Waivers will be sent ahead of time or can be completed onsite. If under 18, parents must sign the waiver and an adult must accompany them during cleanup.

Community Mentoring matches volunteer mentors with children ages 7 to 14 who meet outside of school in the community. Matches are supported by the LSS Community Mentorng Program Coordinators who works to ensure a successful experience for all.

Children can start meeting with a Community mentor after they turn 7 years old, and must be under the age of 14 to enroll as a new participant. Established matches can continue to meet after the child turns 14.

Community matches meet for four hours per month with dates, times and the activity of each meeting set by the match. To help with this, LSS provides an activity card that offers discounts to program participants and hosts monthly events that all matches are invited to attend.

The Literacy Council of the Black Hills relies on volunteers to fulfill our mission: to teach adults to speak, read, and write English. We invite you join us on this rewarding journey! Do you want to use your ‘Sewing Super Powers’ to help ensure children and adults with disabilities have the fabric ‘tools’ to be successful everyday?

No need to be a master seamstress but an interest in helping and following pattern instructions to create needed, daily items.

LifeScape will have the sewing instructions and all the supplies, we just need your sewing skills to create and adapt to specific needs.

As a Senior Companion, you will work one-on-one with individuals who need a little extra help to remain independent. You’ll visit your Senior Companion client on a regular schedule that fits both your availability and your client’s needs - whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or more frequently. 

Our Senior Companions engage in a variety of activities, including but not limited to: companionship, playing games, enjoying hobbies together, assisting with grocery shopping, errands, and transportation, light household tasks, providing respite for caregivers

The Volunteer Service Bank is looking for compassionate individuals to provide transportation to medical appointments for those in need. A few hours of your time can make a impact on someone in our community!

Do you love doing dishes? ok this is not doing dishes, its much better! It is cleaning and sanitizing toys. The awesome of it? You get to play while you work! 

Toy cleaning and sanitizing is very important to the Toy Lending Library. We want to make sure the toys are SUPER clean. Little children will play and learn with them.

The Furniture Mission is a faith-based organization providing gently used furniture to those in need free of charge. We also pick-up donations of furniture. We are seeking a warehouse volunteer who is comfortable loading furniture for families onsite. When an appointment arrives, they pick out their needed items and we load their trucks. Volunteers will be trained on moving furniture and use of equipment dollies for easier transporting. A comfortable home provides dignity, security and a better environment in which to raise a family. Host a blanket making party of your own and drop the blankets off at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary when complete.

Project Warm-Up began making blankets for local homeless children in 2006. Since that time, over 40,000 blankets have been given to children experiencing homelessness, in foster care, lost their homes due to fire/flood/tornado, dealing with the loss of a parent, fighting serious illnesses, and more!

Donations of fleece, funds, and/or blankets are accepted any school day, 7:30-4:30 at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School, 1510 S Lake Avenue.

Rescue Squad: The Rescue Squad is called to assist Rural Fire with their firefighting efforts and conduct search and rescue operations. This team operates and maintains specialized vehicles and equipment used to respond to these types of calls. The Rescue Squad meets and trains monthly. Dive Team: The Dive Team meets and trains to conduct searches underwater in low visibility situations. There are monthly meetings and numerous training opportunities. The Dive Team works closely with other dive teams throughout the area. Dive certification is preferred however not necessary as Emergency Management will provide or reimburse for training. The office of Minnehaha County Emergency Management is currently accepting applications for officers for the Minnehaha County Police Reserves.

Applicants must be of good moral character, have no criminal background, be a licensed driver with a good driver’s history, be at least 21 years of age, and be in good physical health.

The Minnehaha County Police Reserve Law Enforcement Unit currently consists of volunteer reserve law enforcement officers. The primary function of a reserve officer is to supplement and support career law enforcement officers. Reserve officers have participated in assisting at parades, Sioux Empire Fair, marathons, holiday patrol, street dances, community events, tournaments, and dignitary visits such as Presidential details.

Children's Home Society is seeking a group of volunteers to wash our outside windows at our new campus located at 5301 Mt Rushmore Rd.  All washing supplies are provided.  We are looking for this to be an ongoing project and will work with any individual or group on the best day and time to have this project completed.

Assist patients and visitors to get to their destination by walking with them or pushing them in a wheelchair.

New Construction

·         We build homes year round with construction shifts running Tuesday – Saturday

·         AM shift – 8:30am-11:30am and PM shift – 12pm-4pm. Saturday PM shift - 12pm -3pm

·         No experience necessary! Construction supervisors will be on site to provide training and offer safety tips

·         All tools and equipment will be provided by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls

·         Tasks can range between foundation work, building walls, painting, and putting in countertops

·         Construction shifts work best for groups of 4-16 people.

·         Must be 16 years old with parental or guardian consent to be on the job site

The Salvation Army's Women's Auxiliary group is actively seeking new members. Women who have a passion to see their community changed for the better, who desire to support families and children through their volunteer activities. If you want to make a big impact by giving a little of your time, the Women's Auxiliary is for you! 

A few of the main events the Auxiliary helps with is our Christmas Toy Shop which is in November and December. They also volunteer for our Coats for Kids, Shop with a Cop, Community baby shower, as well as a fall bake sale and a summer hot dog sale.

Owen's Outfitters is a new medical equipment lending library based in Sioux Falls, SD. We're looking for regular volunteers who can spare 1-2 hours a week to help manage donated durable medical equipment intake. Volunteers will help us sort out donations, clean and repair items as needed, prepare items for display and storage, and assist staff with equipment database management. The position may require some lifting and rotating actions, but accommodations will happily be provided. Owen's Outfitters is a medical equipment lending library in Sioux Falls whose mission is to provide durable and disposable medical equipment at no charge to those who need it most, sourced through community donations. 
Servers truly are the heart of Owen’s Outfitters. They meet and greet clients, assist with orders, process lending paperwork, and track item requests. They also process and organize donations, stock and manage inventory, and maintain our storefront so it’s always clean and tidy. We are looking for regular volunteers who can provide us with a minimum of four hours a month to work as Servers.
Servers often come to us with prior experience in the medical industry or knowledge of medical equipment and supplies. Although this kind of background can be helpful to get you up and running quickly, it’s certainly not essential for the role. At Feeding South Dakota, our volunteers and staff come together to distribute boxes and bags of food to our neighbors during Mobile Distributions. This essential program helps us support around 12,000 families across the state each month. We are seeking a volunteer to help with the guest registration process, which includes entering or updating guest information on a tablet and checking in guests for the distribution.

Better Choices, Better Health® SD offers chronic disease self-management education workshops designed to help adults living with ongoing physical and/or mental health conditions and caregivers understand how healthier choices can improve quality of life, boost self-confidence, and inspire positive lifestyle changes. Volunteer Leaders are needed! To become a Lay Leader, you will attend either a 4-day in-person training or a 7-week week virtual training that consists of twice weekly 2.5-hour sessions and agree to a minimum two-year commitment. You’ll receive a leader manual and complete training activities identical to those taught to workshop attendees. You’ll learn how to implement and administrate the program and complete practice teaching assignments.

The Sioux 52 Mentoring Initiative seeks to unify Sioux Falls area non-profit, business, and faith communities in order to create a universal, significant and long-lasting commitment to mentoring in our city. A Museum Store Clerk aids in selling unique items to visitors at the Old Courthouse Museum. This volunteer should be willing to work with staff and the public for making sales, restocking inventory, and keeping the store clean and organized. Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age and should be comfortable working with money and computers. Opportunities include weekdays and weekends.

An Exhibits Assistant aids museum staff in the production and installation of quality exhibits. Duties may include crafting skills, scrapbooking, painting, sanding and finishing, using power tools including drill press, table saw, band saw, and planers, and work with various materials including Plexiglas, Formica, wood, and metals. You will gain an understanding of the exhibit creation process and see that there's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes at the museum than you may realize!

Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age. Hours are primarily weekdays.

The Inn on Westport has South Dakota's first Rock Steady Boxing Program for Parkinson's Patients. Rock Steady Boxings offers boxing-inspired fitness classes to only people with Parkinson's Disease. Volunteers are needed to be "Cornerman" for our boxers/ fighters (Parkinson's patients) as they "fight" back against their disease.  Our Cornerman volunteers will play a vital component of the exercise class by providing encouragement, helping motivate and push the boxers, and ensuring their safety during the workouts.  Cornerman are paired with a boxer and will spend the class with this boxer, but will also interacting with all participants.  Cornerman will help explain exercise modifications as needed, make sure the boxers are staying properly hydrated, and watch for signs of low blood pressure, dizziness, or overheating. 

Cornerman must be:

Cornerman are needed at least 1x week for 2 hours but can volunteer up to 3 x week for 2 hour classes.

NAMI South Dakota is looking for a new NAMI Rapid City Affiliate Leader or Leaders! This position is great for those who have lived experience with a mental illness or a family member who has a mental illness. The Affiliate Leader makes a great impact on the members of their community by setting up monthly meetings, helping with resource tables at various community events, and supporting others who have struggles regarding mental illness.

Make a meaningful impact by volunteering with the Sallie’s Table Weekend Feeding Program, a vital service for homeless and near-homeless individuals and families in Sioux Falls. Every Saturday and Sunday evening, when other feeding programs are closed, we provide a warm, nutritious meal to those in need—anywhere from 90 to 120 people each weekend.

This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteer groups and families to serve together and connect with the community. Volunteers play an essential role in preparing and packing meals, then serving them to guests from 4:45pm to 5:45pm. After everyone has been served, we invite volunteers to help with cleanup, ensuring the space is ready for the next day.

The “Volunteer to Go” Experience! This is ideal for individuals or groups that can not come in person to volunteer at Lunch is Served! You can pick up at Lunch is Served or an experience can be dropped off to you!

The tote includes lunch bags, a Lunch is Served stamp, and a must be refrigerated stamp. Please stamp the bottom of the sack and bundle in groups of 100.

Inspirational notes are always needed as we go through around 400 a week. You can use your imagination and creativity here. Computer generated notes can work but the recipients of the lunches really like the hand written notes. You can really make someone’s day! So have fun with this and just remember an inspirational note can be a quote, a bible verse, or something that speaks to you!

We can always use donations! Having a drive for granola bars, spoons, applesauce, and napkins are always needed and a drive can promote friendly competition. As always money is always welcome and with a lunch costing only $2.00 a little can go a long way!

We depend on hundreds of volunteers of all ages from service clubs, churches, schools, businesses, social groups, as well as individuals and families to pack all of the sack lunches we serve to the community. 

We ask that volunteers provide donations to cover all or part of the cost of the lunches packed at their scheduled volunteer session. The cost of the food/supplies for each packing varies in size, but is typically $350-$500.

The Tax Aide program is an AARP Foundation and IRS free tax preparation assistance program.  We complete federal tax forms for the low to moderate income population, with special attention to senior citizens and people with disabilities.

All of these activities take place at Active Generations. No accounting background or special tax knowledge is necessary.  Training is provided for all positions.  Basic computer skills are necessary for the tax counselor position, but training is provided for the software and for tax preparation/laws. Training begins in early winter and tax preparation season is February 1 to April 15.

Our volunteers find this program to be very rewarding and a positive experience.  Our clients/taxpayers are extremely grateful for the program.

Disaster Action Teams (DAT) Responders offer emotional support, financial aid, and information to help families start recovering. DAT Responders specifically respond to these local disasters, providing immediate care and support to those affected.

Red Cross communications volunteers are part of a professional team that develops and delivers the Red Cross story behind-the-scenes, in-person, online, and on camera through media channels, websites, social media feeds and other content platforms. Grocery Shopper volunteers make an impact in the lives of Call to Freedom clients and their families by providing groceries and other basic need items (toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc.)  Call to Freedom staff sends out a monthly grocery list of various needs & you would be responsible for purchasing approximately $25 worth of items.

Volunteers that are part of our Prayer Team make an impact in the lives of trafficking survivors and our state by praying for clients, staff, and the mission of Call to Freedom.  You can pray in small groups at Call to Freedom's office, from your home, or through your church.  The CTF Monthly Prayer meeting takes place on the second Wednesday of each month at 8:30 am.  Prayer needs are sent monthly by the CTF Spirituality Coordinator.

The role of client mentor is to introduce clients to new experiences that will contribute to their stability and reintegration into the community.  You will act as another link in a client's support system.  Interaction may include a variety of activities based on mentor/mentee preferences, needs, skills, and interests.  We ask for a minimum of a one-year commitment after being matched with a client.
