Who We Are
Black Hills Center for Aging is a small, non-profit organization providing essential Adult Day Services for elderly and disabled individuals residing at home or with caregivers, many of whom face complex health and social challenges.
Guests of our center are survivors of stroke, traumatic brain injury, paralysis, and those diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other disabilities. We strive to enhance the quality of life of older adults in western South Dakota.
We offer comprehensive support Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, including transportation to and from our facilities, personal cares and hygiene support, frequent community outings, nutritional oversite, social connection and daily life enriching activities designed to enhance the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of those we serve.
In addition to our Adult Day Services, we facilitate the Caregivers Program for western South Dakota, offer monthly community education opportunities on a variety of aging related topics, and have community health worker services available for those in need.
What We Do
Adult Day Service Program
Respite for Caregivers:
It can be extremely stressful for caregivers providing care 24/7 to a loved one
in the home. Respite is known to offset the negative impacts of caregiving-
time away is necessary to reduce stress and burnout while increasing
self-compassion and sustained resilience in the caregiving role.
Transportation Services: Transportation to and from our facility is provided on a limited basis. We estimate around 70% of our guests rely on our transportation service for their attendance.
Personal Cares: Our licensed and professional care staff provide discrete hygiene support, safe and comfortable shower assistance, incontinence care, and administration of medication. We have a full service salon at both of our day center locations.
Social Connection and Acceptance: We provide a place for individuals to come as they are, free of judgement to be themselves, to find laughter, friendship, acceptance, and inclusion- where they are treated like family. Life Enriching
Activities: We offer a diverse weekly activities calendar tailored to needs and interests of our guests, including daily exercise, arts and crafts, live music, dance, cognitive games, and educational sessions. Our daily activities are strategically selected to promote a sense of wellness and purpose.
Frequent Outings: Planned community outings are offered 2-3 times per week, vary week to week, and may include visits to local tourist attractions, parks, restaurants, museums, activity centers, and/or volunteer activities with other non-profits. We provide supervision, inclusion, laughter and fun! Our talented care staff assist with fostering guest relationships and guided conversations to bring joy at every occasion.
Nutritional Support: We offer healthy meal options and snacks, ensuring each guest receives proper nutrition and hydration throughout the day. This is particularly important for older adults who may have dietary restrictions or difficulty preparing meals at home.
