Home Build
• The Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity local Home Build program seeks to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. This program offers families an opportunity they may not have the chance at otherwise, to be a homeowner. At our local Habitat affiliate, we strive to build strength, stability and self-reliance in our homeowners while building shelter within our community. To do this, we offer interest free mortgages, homes built by volunteers (no labor charge) and the expectation that the eligible homeowners served apply sweat equity to the program and their home being built. Our local affiliate prides ourselves in serving the greater mission of seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Home Preservation
• Our Home Preservation programs are efforts to serve low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain their homes and keep aging community members in their homes for as long as possible. This program focuses on exterior home repair services such as painting, minor exterior repairs, landscaping, weather stripping and exterior cleanup. We also do interior repair and renovation. The assistance this program offers is separate from our home build program. It allows us to serve a different population and meet a pressing community need that focuses on extending the longevity of a home's life. Like the other program, qualified candidates must be able to pay and partner on the project, as they work alongside our professionals and other volunteers. Projects are completed using donated materials, and low-interest loans (if needed) so that a homeowner can live safely and independently their homes.
ReStore
• Habitat ReStores are independently owned reuse stores operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations that accept donations and sell home improvement items to the public at a fraction of the retail price.
